How is Caritas Czech Republic helping refugees in Zambia?

Restrictions associated with COVID-19 has made the lives of displaced people even more vulnerable, limiting their access to basic rights. As of 31st August 2020, Zambia has hosted over 92,598 people of concern who have fled their homelands due to persecution, conflict, violence or natural disasters.

Every coin of this year’s Three Kings’ Collection was counted. The 21st year has reached CZK 81,476,000. Such a good outcome was not expected. The traditional carolling had to leave out the main aspect: the carollers, due to the epidemiological situation. It was possible to contribute to the Collection only online or through the “static moneyboxes”. The collected money is no longer stored on the account, but is already helping all over the country those in need, who found themselves in a difficult situation due to the covid-19 epidemic as well.

The Three King's moneyboxes unsealed – 80 million collected. Thank you!

The donations from the Three King's moneyboxes have been counted and its total amount reached 52,3 million. The online carolling on the website of the collection brought another almost 24 million and over 4 million came through generous donor DMS. In total, this year’s Three Kings Collection brought almost 80,3 million for those in need. The carolling is not over yet. You can support the collection online or by DMS until the end of April.

Caritas help the victims of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict

Because of the armed conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, up to 20 thousand of people living in Nagorno-Karabakh had to leave their homes, as it is the area both states want to gain. And therefore, Caritas Czech Republic decided to send 5,000 euros from its funds to help the refugees who have fled to Armenia. This money will be given to the branch of Caritas in Armenia which provides help in this area.

Maritta is one of those affected by the massive explosion in the port warehouse last week, her house was badly damaged. Even in this difficult situation she has decided to help others as a volunteer with the Lebanese Caritas.

The capital of Lebanon is slowly recovering from the initial shock following a massive explosion which has shattered the port area. After the event local Caritas Lebanon offered immediate assistance – and to this date Caritas organizations from more than 10 countries in the world have made a contribution to directly support the victims of this disaster with an amount exceeding  € 530 000.
