Merciful Summer gives debtors in foreclosure chance to live new life

Over the years, the debts of countless people in the Czech Republic have increased many times over due to high penalties. The unfavorable situation led them into a debt trap, from which almost no one can get out on their own. An amendment to the Enforcement Order and Civil Procedure Code, the so-called Merciful Summer, should help the indebted to solve this difficult situation. It will allow debtors with a court-ordered execution to pay only the debt itself - the so-called principal - without interest and penalties. However, this option will be limited in time, which is necessary to be wary of.

The alarming shortage of nursing staff across the whole republic, the obstacles in legislation that make addressing the situation difficult, but also an analysis of reasons leading to today´s situation and what solutions are on offer, were the main topics of the Round Table where representatives of Qualitas Optima 2020 and Gratia futurum 913 organizations met. The expert meeting took place for the first time ever in mid-September in Marianeum Hotel in Prague.

Zugdidi Screening Center Saves the Lives of the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Population

Thanks to the financial support from Czech Development Agency (CzechAid), Caritas Czech Republic has been conducting information campaigns on cancer prevention and early detection in the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region since 2010. Initially, our organization provided medical examinations in the villages through a mobile clinic. However, for further medical services, locals had to travel to Tbilisi. In 2019, with the financial support from CzechAid, Caritas Czech Republic built Zugdidi Screening Center that enables the population of West Georgia to receive state screening services on the spot.

Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic cancelled zones without supplementary payment

Zones without supplementary payment, which were enabled in urban areas by a part of the Act on Material Need, will disappear. The motion to dismiss was submitted by 17 senators. The concerned part of the provision of the mentioned Act was revoked by the Constitutional Court on August 31. According to its statement, the limitation of benefits in delimited areas affects all people in need and interferes with the law on providing basic living standards. We view the cancellation of the zones without supplementary payment very positively, since we focus on helping people in need in social area in a long term.

Caritas Czech Republic launches an appeal for Afghanistan

Afghanistan has long been facing conflicts, the effects of climate change and poverty. The recent takeover of the country by the Taliban will inevitably deepen the humanitarian crisis and significantly worsen the security situation in the country. A large number of Afghans have no choice but to flee the country and seek a safer place to live. A significant increase in the number of refugees in the surrounding states is expected. In response to the situation, Caritas Czech Republic is launching the appeal Caritas Czech Republic for Afghanistan to help refugees in neighbouring countries.

Collection for people affected by the tornado. Thank you for your help!

South Moravian Region was hit by a heavy storm with a hailstorm and a tornado on Thursday evening and Friday night causing severe damage. There was a number of casualties and hundreds were injured including children. Caritas is helping in the affected areas and is sending out intervention teams. Diocesan Caritas Brno is organizing a collection for people hit by the damaging tornado in the Hodonín and Břeclavsko region. The donations will help in specific villages.
