Caritas Czech Republic announces collection
to help flood victims
Flood warnings are unfortunately coming true. Almost the entire territory of the Czech Republic is facing extreme rainfall and flooding. The situation is particularly critical in Moravia. Our colleagues in the municipalities affected by the floods have been tirelessly helping and will continue to help.
We are immediately releasing funds from our emergency fund for the first phase of assistance. However, the damage and the need for assistance will increase in the hours ahead. That's why we have announced a collection Caritas for the Flood Victims.
The money raised will help us provide food, drinking water, and basic necessities for families who have been left homeless. And then help rebuild their homes.
You can also help through the fundraiser Caritas for the Flood Victims.

Frequently Asked Questions:
How many households and people were affected, and how many homes were destroyed?
Around 250,000 people have been impacted by the floods, with 13,500 evacuated. In some of the hardest-hit areas, like Jeseník and Krnov, around 20 homes have entirely collapsed, and hundreds more are severely damaged. Thousands of homes have suffered significant interior damage, including kitchens, boilers, and electrical systems.
What was Caritas’ immediate response, and what are the long-term plans?
Immediately after the disaster, Caritas Czech Republic launched a public fundraising campaign. We have already released the first 20 million CZK from the collected donations to purchase essential equipment such as dehumidifiers, cleaning agents, and other necessary supplies for restoring flooded buildings. We also established a 24/7 helpline to provide critical information to those affected by the floods. As we move forward, we are focusing more on direct financial assistance based on social assessments conducted by our colleagues in the field.
How many volunteers are involved in the response?
Around 500 volunteers are involved in the response, working tirelessly to assist with cleanup efforts, removing debris, and distributing aid.
A short statement from an affected individual or Caritas staff
One inspiring story comes from the kitchen staff at Vývařovna AVE in Vidnava, operated by Caritas Jeseník. Despite their homes being flooded, they continued cooking meals for evacuees, volunteers, and firefighters. Even without electricity, they persevered using gas burners and candlelight, showing incredible resilience and dedication.
